We’re coming at you again with another #WichitaWednesday! 🤩🙌 This month we’re checking out Wichita Wind Surge , Wichita’s local minor league baseball team ⚾️ and their new Riverfront Stadium. 🏟️
Quick facts:
🚧 Lawrence-Dumont Stadium was demolished to make room for Riverfront Stadium, which cost over $75 million to construct!
⚾️ Before 2020, the team was located in Louisiana and known as the New Orleans Baby Cakes. However, the team’s history can be traced back to 1888 as the Kansas City Blues.
✍️ Within 24 hours of the name “Wind Surge” being officially announced, there was a petition with over 7,400 signatures to have it changed! Fortunately, the name has grown on many Wichitans.
🏈 The largest recorded attendance in the stadium was actually for a high school football game in Oct. 2022 between Bishop Carroll and Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
🏆 The team won the 2021 Northern Division title and qualified for the championship playoffs by having the league’s best record (69-51).
Upcoming home games:
* Apr 11-16 vs NW Arkansas Naturals
* Apr 25-30 vs Springfield Cardinals
* May 16-21 vs Arkansas Travelers
* May 30-Jun 4 vs Tulsa Drillers
Ticket prices range from $8-20 for, with an additional $8 option for adults and $4 for kids in the outfield berm. 🎟️ While you’re at the stadium, you can also check out the Wichita Baseball Museum which is located inside! Let us know if you plan on heading to the ballpark this season down below. 👇
